You won't believe this!
My favorite music class activity is learning a dance. I really like the square dance unit we do in 3rd grade. I think learning to dance helps us to learn team work. It also helps me to understand the form of the music better because usually if a section of the music repeats then the movements do too. Most of all it's just fun to MOVE! Sometimes even I have extra energy to burn off. Dancing means I can express myself through music, understand the music more completely and get my groove on! Dance on folks!
Here's a goofy video I found of some men using their tractors to square dance!
Here's some really talented square dancers:

Could you do this??
Isn't this cool? It's a neat mix of music, animation and dance. I wonder what you would need to know to make something like this. Any one have any ideas?

Mrs. Muench's Loves....
So it's my turn to talk about my favorite music. I like almost anything that I'm familiar with. I think I could learn to like about any type of music as long as I'm introduced to it by someone who is passionate about that type of music. People who are passionate about their music introduce me to things I haven't noticed before and can talk to me about what is it they like about their music. For instance, even though I don't usually like most rap music right away, if Liz pointed out some interesting part of a song that might make me more inclined to listen to the song again.
If I'm looking for music to listen to in the car I most often listen to contemporary Christian music. I like that it's up beat and can make me feel happier on days when I am down. I also like that this type of music helps me think about if I'm treating those around me well. Of course my favorite type of music in class is anything singing! Here's a video of another 5th grade chorus that I found on youtube. They really seem to be enjoying singing together. If you click on the triangle play button on the picture then you can watch and listen to the kids in this chorus sing! Try it!
Maybe someday our chorus could express themselves like that!
I don't like to listen to any music that puts people down. If it's not positive I don't like to spend lots of time listening to it. So if someone trys to get me to listen to a song about killing someone over and over then I'm going to say, "no thank you". Or if a song has foul language in it that really doesn't sit well with me. I think educated people can find better words than curse words to express themselves.
I'll cover my favorite music class activity in my next blog. Thanks for reading
